Longchamp is an international brand that has maintained momentum and energy across the decades. Their handbags, luggage and accessories have a worldwide reputation for craftsmanship and quality, which now extends to shoes and ready-to-wear collections.
Longchamp Outlet began to collaborate with various artists and designers early on. The designer Jeremy Scott has been consistently creating new designs for the brand. He always managed to create modern innovations, above all for the “Le Pliage” design. In 2004, the Zip Bag was introduced to the market, a bag with an elongated zip. It was designed by the architect Thomas Heatherwick. The label’s collaboration with the model Kate Moss is particularly well-known. She has designed bags for the brand since 2006 as part of the “Kate Moss for Longchamp” collection, and serves as the face of the company’s marketing campaigns at the same time.
Although Longchamp only began to design bags in the seventies, the French label has become one of the most popular manufacturers of bags on the fashion scene. With simple and feminine designs, the elegant Longchamp bags are counted among stars’ favourites.
The Longchamp label was originally founded by Jean Cassegrain. However, he didn’t start out selling fashionable accessories, instead he sold leather cases for smoking accessories. The Longchamp name was inspired by a racecourse, as the founder’s surname “Cassegrain” had already been taken by another company and could therefore not be used. Around 1955, the product range was expanded to include small wallets for men. In 1960, came the first travel bags made of leather and nylon. Subsequently, the first ladies’ handbags were put on the market in 1971, the label’s most successful product today. After the company’s founder passed away, his son took over leadership of the company. Philipp Cassegrain opened the first Longchamp boutique in Paris and established an extensive distribution network. Together with Isabelle Guyon, he designed the label’s most famous item – “Le Pliage”. The bags are made from leather and nylon and can be folded flat. Still to this day, the company remains in the hands of the Cassegrain family, and nowadays their products are sold in America and Asia as well.
Probably the most well-known designer pieces by the French label Longchamp are the Longchamp bags. They are usually made from leather or canvas. The brand’s most well-known model is the “Le Pliage”. Today, this is available in all sorts of designs.
